Actuarial Manager – Operations Intelligence (Discovery Insure)

Discovery Insure, the group’s short-term (motor and home) insurer, is recruiting an Actuarial Manager for Operations Intelligence at 1 Discovery Place in Sandton. The role builds data-driven solutions to make Insure’s operations more efficient, especially procurement and external suppliers, as well as claims, sales and servicing. It uses statistical, actuarial, machine learning and generative AI techniques.

Key responsibilities:

– Develop and implement strategic procurement initiatives with the procurement operations teams.

– Optimise and automate how suppliers are appointed and allocated across claim types.

– Build supplier scoring, coaching and evaluation algorithms, and design supplier incentive models.

– Apply generative AI to improve business and procurement processes.

– Deliver advanced supplier analytics, and develop procurement fraud and audit models.

Requirements:

– Matric, plus an honours degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematical Statistics or Computer Science, or an equally strong mathematics or economics background (essential).

– AMASSA/FASSA.

– Advanced statistical and analytical skills, intermediate modelling skills, and intermediate SQL and Python.

– Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Word, plus some experience using generative AI.

– Management skills.

– 3+ years of research and development experience in insurance is an advantage.
