Data Engineer

Sea Harvest, the South African integrated fishing and food group, is hiring a permanent Data Engineer in Cape Town. You will design, build and run the data pipelines and platforms that feed reporting, analytics and automation across the business, working closely with BI analysts, data scientists and business teams. The stack is Microsoft-centred (Fabric and Azure).

Key responsibilities:

• Design, build and maintain scalable batch and near-real-time data pipelines from multiple source systems
• Build and optimise ETL/ELT processes, with orchestration, scheduling and monitoring
• Design and maintain the data warehouse and lakehouse, including dimensional models for reporting and analytics
• Ensure consistency, traceability and lineage across raw, curated and presentation layers
• Implement data quality checks, governance standards, documentation and access controls
• Translate business needs into technical data solutions and help troubleshoot data issues

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or a related field
• 3-5 years’ hands-on experience in data engineering or data warehousing
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse), Azure data services or similar cloud platforms
• Strong SQL and data modelling skills; Python, Spark or similar tools
• Microsoft certifications in data engineering, Azure or Fabric are highly desirable
