Instrument Technician C3

Cement producer PPC has a permanent opening for an Instrument Technician (C3) in the Engineering department at its Dwaalboom plant in Limpopo (Inland business unit). You will keep the plant’s instrumentation and electrical equipment reliable, safe and efficient through planned and breakdown maintenance, standby duty and risk assessments, and you will help train apprentices, students and handymen.

Key responsibilities:

Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance, diagnostics, repairs and installations on instrumentation and plant equipment according to work orders and the CMMS
Do first-line failure diagnosis, spot proactive maintenance opportunities and run scheduled asset health checks
Complete job cards accurately (time, asset class and failure codes) and give feedback to planning for continuous improvement
Request spares and materials and keep working inventory to a minimum
Perform standby duties and risk assessments for maintenance tasks
Follow operational best practice, SHE, legal and statutory requirements, and report incidents and risks
Mentor learners (apprentices and students on attachment) and handymen, and work professionally with contractors
Requirements:

National Certificate in Instrumentation and Control or a related qualification
2 years’ experience in heavy industry or a mining environment
Valid driver’s licence
Knowledge of high-tension cables, switchgear, transformers and instrumentation
Experience with AC and DC drives and motors, and Siemens S5/S7 PLCs
Familiarity with EMS, QMS, On Key and other maintenance systems
